I've just had an A/C mechanic recommend simple removal of the "Accumulator" piece rather than replacement in an 11 yo unit. The thinking being that in "hot" south Florida there is less need for it's functionality, and if the removal eventually damages the compressor, that the whole unit should be replaced at that time. It would save a significant amount of labor time and expense. Any thoughts?

Does anybody on the forum have any experience with changing the accumulator of a 10yo Cruisair 20KBTU Condensing unit that appears corroded. The system turns off by a "Lo PS" signal and immediately looses its refrigerant. This part appears quite corroded on the top. I'm told it needs to be soldered on (which is a potential heat problem during install) and is difficult to remove as it is bolted on from the bottom plate.
