I may not be able to help you with the EnviroCool system...Last I checked my distributor does not stock that line...(They didn't stock the Zepher line either because they just didn't sell much here)

Both the EnviroCool & EviroComfort (and the previous Zephyr) systems are/were aimed at the DIY market stores such as West Marine...They didn't offer them thru the standard distributor/servicing dealer network (at least the Zephyr was this way)...I'm not even sure I can offer the same discount on those models until I talk to the distributor tomorrow...Things may have changed with the introduction Enviro models...

I'm am sure one could be ordered, but that would also mean extra freight from the factory unless you wanted to wait for them to place it on a large "stocking order" which takes longer...Both for the order to be placed, and to ship...It also comes by Truck freight instead of UPS and that process is longer also.

To use a single unit you would also need a way to get return air from the other cabin to the unit...I'm not familiar with your boat so without detailed pictures I can't be much help there either...

Hi Steve,

My boat is a Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi.

For the aft cabins... I gave some thought to to a single unit with a crossover duct. Not sure right now how hard it would be to get a duct across to the other side of the boat. I am going to look into that... but I already have the 5k Zephyr so I think I am going to get that installed into one of the aft cabins. I am considering a 5K Cruisair Envirocool (replaced the Zephyr model) for the other cabin.

I already have an SMXht display/keypad. I plan to use with a new 16k BTU stowaway turbo. I would have probably gone with the Q Logic control if I didn't already have an SMXht display/keypad already. The reason I asked about using an SMXht on the Zephyr was to standardize the controls throughout the boat. Since an SMXht will be a hassle to sync with the Zephyr (and will not be very beneficial) I will forget that idea and get a new 2 knob control for the Zephyr.

Do you have to charge sales tax to an out of state buyer? I live in New Hampshire... which has no sales tax.

Glen~

Just in case I wasn't clear…I can sell the Cruisair unit & control…I sell both…I was only letting you know they are the exact same unit, and that the Marine Air with Passport I/O is cheaper when compared to the Cruisair with the SMX IR or SMX II control…

I have yet to sell a Cruisair with the new  “ht” control so I can't comment on it's performance when compared to the SMX IR....I can say they all plug into & function with the same logic board (Q logic is a networking several units control and will not work with the SMXII family board)

I have however worked with the Marine Air “Elite” control which is very similar in dimension to the Cruisair “ht”…

The "Elite" will work with the Passport I/O board but is more expensive than either the Passport I/O or Cruisair "ht" and SMX IR...

Personally, I prefer either the Cruisair SMX IR or Marine Air Passport IO controls…They have more fan speeds, and it seems to reduce the “Hunting” up & down of the fan speed when in the Auto fan mode…

Morning Glen~

Woke to computer troubles so I'm just now getting going…

40' Cat…What brand ?…Have done a few here…The one's I have worked on Split a larger unit between two staterooms aft, which saved money & power, but only allows for control in one stateroom…

I wouldn't worry about LRA ratings…That's if the compressor is locked, and does not represent normal starting amps.

You may want to go over to the installation forum here & read “Easiest Unit to Install”

It's about the Turbo 16…Great unit !…Mike (thread starter) & a slip neighbor were very impressed with it in his install…The slip neighbor is going to order one from me when he returns to his 41 Morgan OI from his farm up north next month…They ordered the Marine Air model which is the same unit, and built in the same plant…Just setup for the Marine Air controls…The Marine Air is a bit cheaper…

I can discount off retail + shipping & Fl sales tax…

The Zephyr 2 knob switch is not listed in the current price book …The Zephyr has been discontinued.

I did find it in last years price book with a part # of ZFSA1-XB with a price of $147.00…It comes with a 10' cable.

I can find out current price & availability Monday…

I have a 40' sailing catamaran. I was advised to put a 16k BTU unit in the salon sette to cool the salon/galley and forward cabins, then add two 5k btu units... one for each aft cabin. I picked up the used 5K at a good price so that will handle one aft cabin... just need the controls. Along with the controls for the 5 k unit, I am also looking to purchase a new Cruisair Stowaway Turbo (STX16-HV 115V 60HX ONLY). Can you also price this for me? In my research I noticed that the "Turbo" units have lower running amps but the LRA are a bit higher than the standard stowaway units. I plan to have this A/C set up for shore power primarily and maybe (just occasionally) use a small portable generator to power just the 16k unit. Do you think a 3000 watt Honda Generator would get by for this (just occasional) purpose? My concern is the Turbo's LRA (59). I believe the standard stowaway unit LRA is 44. I am favoring the Turbo because I like the lower running amps but really like the composite condensation pan. Also Cruisair says it's quieter.

Any thoughts on all this?

You assistance is much appreciated!

Glenn

Thanks Glen...Yes I can sell parts...Just haven't built that part of the site yet...

You won't need the TSEP 5...That part is for the digital controls.

I will look up the control you need in the morning & post back with the part #

I'm not sure my distributor stocks the 2 knob model and can find that out on Monday.

But the Second knob is the T-stat and it will have a small tube with a larger bulb at the end that you place in the return air path close to the unit...It should also come with the cable & plug.

What size boat are you installing the Zephyr in ?

Thanks Steve...

Good advice.  I will stay with the mechanical controls. I pickup up this Zephyr unit used and it came with the remote box but not the mechanical control panel or temp sensor.

Today I was researching my control options and came across this website. It's pretty clear you are the "go to guy" for Marine AC! I have been looking around this website to see if you have an online catalog... and I don't see that option. Do you sell Marine AC (Cruisair) products or just do servicing?

I am going to be be buying parts I would like to buy from someone you... who is willing take time to answer questions.

Looks like right now I will need:

(1) 2 knob control panel (SA4A-ZB) (I believe ?)...

Does this come with the cable?

(1) TSEP5 Temperature Sensing Element

Ducts and Grills

Do you sell Cruisair product online and ship them?

Thanks,

Glenn

Hi Glen~

The answer is yes…But would I ?…No I don't think so…

Several reasons…

  • The Zephyr is a cooling only unit & the digital controls are made for cool/heat models.
  • I'm not sure the fan motor on the Zephyr would respond well to slowing down…It may overheat it.
  • You would need to cut out the wiring plugs & install a terminal strip to hard wire to.
  • Zephyr has no pressure switches to utilize the protections of the digital controls.
  • The retrofit parts & labor would likely be close to the cost of a new unit ready for the control, plus a new unit would also have heat & 2 year warranty.

Honestly ?…The Zephyr is the bargain unit that was not made to do anything other than what it does do.

I guess it's a question of if it's worth it on a Zephyr…To me it would not be unless I could find some used parts to try it with.

Hi Steve,

  I have a Cruisair ZF5/2-2KB   (5000 BTU Zephyr 2 knob Control).

In your posting I see that mecahnical controlled units can be upgraded to digital controls.

I would like to have this unit run on the SMXht keypad/display. My concern is that what I have read (including your posting) about upgrading the Cruisair units it usually mentions 3 knob controls.

Can a 2 knob unit be ugraded to a digital controls?

Can the SMXht keypad/display be used on my ZF5/2-2KB?

Thanks,

Glenn G.
