Here’s to hoping your New Year is Prosperous…and Regardless of the present status of the economy…I’m sure that most all of us are feeling the same pinch !
I’d like to offer that in the past economic downturns…I have noticed that Service of older systems/boats seems Much more prevalent than the purchase of new…And that Most folks seem to either want to get out of boating…Or stay with what they have a bit longer to see what is likely to shake out….Heck…It’s times like these that are not good for a seller if he wants to get the most for his Beloved Ole Gal…
Sadly this is true of most all property, but it seems to hit the Marine Industry especially hard since boats are considered a luxury item that we can put aside for the time being for other “More Important” concerns…But Hey…What can be more important than Relaxation?
I know…Eating, Paying Bills…and stuff like that right?
Thing is…Your trusty A/C guy has Gotta eat too…LOL
Really though….Now is the time of year that is traditionally slow for the Marine Industry anyway…Just after everyone has spent a bundle on the Holidays is what I have always attributed it to…However….
There are a few reasons that you may want to consider either going over your systems yourself…Or getting that Trusty A/C guy out now to have a once over…
- First off…It’s much cooler now to do the work when you do not need A/C…To Do the A/C Work…
- If you decide you want Ole Trusty to do it…He will Love you for it when he is at his slowest, and thus may give you a break on work that may be needed once he checks things out…Because he needs it now too…
- It’s customers like these that he respects most, and also likely feels that one hand scratches another’s back so to speak…
- Then when things get Hot & Busy…He remembers…and Trust Me…He Does!
- Going over the systems now can also save you the aggravation of having it not work when you need it…
I know this may sound like I’m selling…and in a way I am standing up for the A/C guy…But all too often (Like every year around March for me) Someone calls when every one else does…And I can’t get to them as soon as I, or they would like…Gee…”It was working the last time I was down here and I have a Big Trip All Planned”….
Now I would like to get to them…But as much as they count on me…I can’t just tell the guy I’m working on at present that I have to drop what I’m doing on his boat…Because they have a trip planned…He wants his stuff to work too…
Of Course…Sometimes it can be worked out, but it can be a big inconvenience for everyone involved…Sometimes feelings get hurt in the process…Neither we (A/C guys) nor the customer wants or needs that…
One more thing on this subject and I’ll leave it up to you to comment or decide…But this is also where Ole Trusty may remember…He knows who took care of him when times were slow, and will likely work harder to get to the guy that he knows that he checked his systems to try to prevent an “Emergency” from happening in the first place…
Even with the best of Service…Emergency’s do still happen…But if all the basic service has been done recently…At least he doesn’t have to spend that extra time when neither you, or he has much of it…Hopefully it’s just a small part or some simple adjustment…
