We have a marine air vcp12k product number 205-210500. Serial number g8-m54462. We have not yet installed this in our 28' cape dory, it may not even be big enough? I would still like to repair the unit. My question is: if I supply power to the line 1 for the circulating pump, the pump and the compressor come on,and the unit heats and cools. (Common simple test). After reading other troubleshooting articles on your website, it sounds like the problem is in the circuit board. With that said, it looks like you are offering a marina aire universal retro fit control kit-sku-mrck1. Is that kit the right kit for this vcp12? If you could also indicate to me a brief diagram Of the supply air ducts. I would like one supply in the saloon, one in the head and one in the v-birth. (duct diameters) we also have a fully functioning cruiseair 16k with a seven inch blower. Ultimately, I would like to be able to use the same duct work for the 12k or the 16k. Thanks so much. Great forum. No nonsense and to the point responses, thank you. Dave

We have a marine air vcp12k product number 205-210500. Serial number g8-m54462. We have not yet installed this in our 28' cape dory, it may not even be big enough?…That would depend on your location/climate but it seems it should do pretty well in a 28 footer…Old 31' Bertram's only had 10K, and that was old technology…I would still like to repair the unit. My question is: if I supply power to the line 1 for the circulating pump, the pump and the compressor come on,and the unit heats and cools. (Common simple test)...Actually never heard of that "common" test & i'm not so sure it's a good one at that…You are trying to back feed power thru electronics, or a relay (depending on your model board) Anyway Right or Wrong, at least you now know the compressor pumps… After reading other troubleshooting articles on your website, it sounds like the problem is in the circuit board. With that said, it looks like you are offering a marina aire universal retro fit control kit-sku-mrck1. Is that kit the right kit for this vcp12?…The MarinAire kit is cheaper & will work but it will not control your "Variable" speed fan (unless you add a manual rheostat in line)…It's meant for up to 3 speed winding motors (individual winding's) so without the rheostat your fan will always run on high…The retrofit kit for the proper Marine Airrr Passport I/O upgrade is $590 retail but I do discount it…If you could also indicate to me a brief diagram Of the supply air ducts. I would like one supply in the saloon, one in the head and one in the v-birth. (duct diameters) we also have a fully functioning cruiseair 16k with a seven inch blower. Ultimately, I would like to be able to use the same duct work for the 12k or the 16k.…See if this manual helps Dave: http://www.dometic.com/FileOrg…..nstall.pdf….If after reading that, you have more questions…Come on back & ask…I will say that a 16K requires 7" duct leaving the blower (12 K only needs 6") so if you sized for 16 the 12 would run ok but not the other way around…

Also know that a 16K unit needs…
  •  7" duct…Yes it can be split but needs to leave the unit as 7" and cannot be split any smaller than 6" x 4" … 6" x 5" is better….Or in your case 7 x 6 x 5 (the 5" then again split to two 4's or a 5 & 4)
  • 80 (total) square inches of discharge grill area.
  • 140-160 square inches of return grill area.

Thanks so much. Great forum. No nonsense and to the point responses, thank you. Dave…Always glad to help…Thanks for the Kudos.

Thanks for the response. I am still working with the vector compact 12k. Come to find out, it looks like the white wire coming from the capacitor to the compressor shorted to one of the cooling lines (it actually wore threw the insulation on the wire). I then removed the circuit board, looked underneath and saw the burn mark, located opposite a yellowish colored box. Does that make any sense? You talked me out of the universal kit. I would like to learn of the discounted price on the retrofit kit offered by marine air. You can email me at kat6368@comcast.net with the price. Thank you. Dave
