Jay~

Forgive me but…Having been a Cruisair guy for so many years…I'm not familiar enough with the Older Marine Air Model #'s' to get an exact picture of your unit in my mind…Though I'm sure I have worked on plenty…I just didn't pay much attention to their Model#''s and back then we always used Cruisair parts, or replaced their units with Cruisair…

Soooo…A Picture is as they say…Is Worth a Thousand Words…Well maybe not, but you know how I can run on  Embarassed

If that can't be accomplished I'll need a better description of your unit…

  • What color is it ?
  • Is there a terminal strip on top of the unit for power & pump connections ?
  • Or do you have a separate Remote box that has those connections ?

If you have a separate box with the control circuit board it should be in there with that board…and that box should have two..maybe three small Phillips screws holding it together…

If the unit is blue in color…Then under the terminal strip where the pump & power connect is where it will be…To remove that cover are two 1/4" hex screws just outboard of that terminal strip (on each side) then that cover will lift straight up…

Jay…At this point all I can offer without being there, is to add more gas till it cools the compressor…

I'm still not sure if it is a Rotary compressor & your brother should know if it is or not…But you haven't confirmed…

Take a look at this PDF:  http://dometic.com/FileOrganiz…..ors%20.pdf

Scroll down to where it is titled "Replacement Compressors"…You should see two pictures…

The one on the Left is a Piston type…The one on the Right is a Rotary type…Both are the same BTU…

At this point though I'm afraid your only option is to add more refrigerant…Or replace the compressor, and or the complete unit…(compressors are over $700 from Dometic)

The fact that it has had a Hard Start Kit added tells me the unit likely has had this issue all along…and It may be why someone sold it.

Steve,

I'm happy to report sucess with the system and I feel kind of stupid admitting this.Surprised

I got so mad at the boat that i decided to put everything back together run the rest of the duct work install the plenum and just cycle the unit manually………….well low and behold it runs fine and has for the last 3 weeks I spent 10 days on board and it cycles on and off properly and works like a charm. ICE COLD BABY!

So…. this begs the question is there some reason that the unit would not run properly with out all the duct work run and the plenum securely installed? Obviosly yes and I'm sorry for not mentioning that I had not finished all the ducting but I didnt want to waste the time if the unit would not run……

Maybe  addmittiing this will save someone else the aggrivation.Yell

Thanks again for all the help and advice I have passed along you info to the entire marina for there AC purchases.

The only reason I can think of that it didn't work properly without duct is maybe it was getting cold air back from itself (remote sensor)…Or cold air was blowing on the temp sensor at the display…

When the cold air was removed by cycling the compressor, the temp sensor saw that rapid warm up and called for the compressor too soon (before pressures had equalized) thus it was attempting to start against head pressure…

Guess it's also possible that the evac & proper recharge fixed the problem & you didn't notice it, or fooled yourself into thinking you still had a problem by trying restarts too soon manually… Confused

Glad you got it going  Smile
