The pilothouse control pad works fine usually but sometimes goes black.  At other times the lights will start to flicker.  The unit continues to run fine but cannot be controlled by the pad.  Shutting off the breaker resets it and the pad comes back on fine.  This happens approximately once per week.  Is it about to die?

1977 Hatteras 58' Motoryacht, galley up model with 4 staterooms

5 reverse cycle Cruisair compressors in the starboard engine room with SMXII controllers.  One self contained unit for the enclosed aft deck.  Total 87K btu

Hi David~

 

Have you tried swapping keypads with another system to see if the problem follows the keypad ?

The plastic cover plate comes off by inserting a flat blade screwdriver up under the bottom…Then there will be 4 screws holding it to the bulkhead…

I have also seen Radio Interference cause this…But only if the installer utilized the originally installed unshielded wire to the control/keypad…Never affected operation but was annoying to look at…
