We have been sailing our yacht in mostly tropical waters since the A/C unit was fitted in October 2009, but have now blown two control boards, one in Thailand , the other in Oman. The latest A/C engineer here in Turkey thinks there is "too much current for control board", but as the system runs off either shore power at 220 V or gen set power also at 220V it's difficult to see how this could be caused and, yes, it is a 220 V system. At $600 a go, replacing the control board once every few months makes running the A/C quite expensive. I would have expected the board to be capable of dealing with the power supply quality found with shore power and also to run OK on a gen set – one board has failed on shore power, one on gen set power. Both failures involve the exactly the same component on the board

Hi Steve~

Hmmm….Maybe if you told me what the "component" that fails is…I might be able to offer some probables…

I also need to know brand of control & the specific model…There are so many differences even within brands that it is nothing more than a guess without that knowledge…Which Passport control is it ?…Here is a Identification PDF with pictures:

http://marine-ac.com/marine-ac…..ion-units/

Folks…"All" the info you can give is Paramount to me being able to help with any troubleshooting issue since I'm only here reading a computer screen…Like I say…My Crystal Ball is only so good…I keep rubbing it but it has yet to allow me to read anything but this computer screen…

So far…Minds aren't in the picture Laugh

Sorry Steve…Don't mean to pick on you at all, but knowing the component's purpose would likely tell me which direction to train my questions & thoughts…Is it a compressor triac or relay, fan triac or relay, voltage regulator…If you don't know…What does it look like ?…Can you send a picture ?
