Hello,

A/C Season here in So. Florida, My system is 5 plus years old and has worked very well. However for the last few trips or weekends on board I noticed that the unit will run fine, and then cooling stops and the vent air is warm. The unit's pump and fans are working fine as is the control panel which shows the cooling indicator lamp on.

Now, I can shut the unit down wait 2 to 3 minutes and turn it on and it cools again.

If I'm not around, see below, it will "reset" itself and cool again.

When away for the boat, a 1997 Island Packet Cat, I leave the thermostat at 85 and I'm sure it runs while we're away; daytime temps in So. Fl are around 90, with water temps around 84, so the unit must run every day, and for a long time. And when we get back the cabin is at 85 so I think it is doing it;s job.

Now I have two questions, one; what can cause the intermittent cooling and is this a pending falult?

and two, do these machines have a "duty cycle" or time they should run before stopping to cool off, no pun intended, or can the run and run with no harm?

Thanks in advance.

No Duty cycle…But they do have a de-icing cycle…Check your manual for a description of the de-icing cycle to see if it correctly describes what your unit is doing…

You may also want to consider using the systems de-humidify feature instead of leaving it at 85 degrees 24/7 when away…

This should decrease run time & frequency of strainer cleaning, while keeping humidity inside at a minimum.

Thank you, I'll check the manual.

What would cause the deicing cycle to come to play? Low freon?

Will the icing be visible on the unit?

And I'll go back to the " away " mode for humidity control.

What risks are there in letting the unit run? As in some days it's won't reach its thermostat set point.

All the best,

What would cause the deicing cycle to come to play? Low freon?…Deicing can be active to prevent icing…It does not have to ice for the control to de-ice the unit…As I said, the manual will describe how & when it's activated & the stages you can program…

What risks are there in letting the unit run? As in some days it's won't reach its thermostat set point.…Un attended run time may be extended which increases chances of water flow loss & the problems associated with that…Also that increased run time gives barnacles & the like the food source & oxygen to grow bigger, faster, thus blocking system flow….You can also program levels of humidity removal…See the manual again…

All the best,
