I have a VCD7K/1 Dometic Marine Airrr unit and I keep getting a HPF on the control unit.  I have taken out the water pump and tested it and it works perfect, I cleaned the grills and also the filter and still I cannot get the water pump to turn on.  Any suggestions?

Hi Tony~

The water pump turning on….And the water pump pumping water are two differing problems…

We need to know which it is….

  • Does the pump run when installed ?
  • If not, does it have voltage ?
  • If it runs installed…Have you assured it has good water supply ?
  • Is it mounted below the outside waterline ?
  • Have you tried to prime it…and how did you do that ?

These are all common questions to ask….The answers will help me help you…

Steve thanks for the reply

  • Does the pump run when installed ? No
  • If not, does it have voltage ? Yes
  • If it runs installed…Have you assured it has good water supply ? Yes, when I unhook the hose from the pump to the AC units its drawing water from the seacock.  When I took it out and conected a power supply to it, it pumps water very well.
  • Is it mounted below the outside waterline ? Yes
  • Have you tried to prime it…and how did you do that ? No I did not sense it had water going into it, if I should still how would that be done?

ok let me try to clear up the problem, the unit went into HPF (High Freon Pressure Fault), when I turn on the AC unit the compressor and the blower work but it is not switching on the water pump so I am not getting any water out the thru-hull fitting. The unit will run for a while without the water coming out then display the HPF status on the controll unit and the compressor will turn off.

I took the water pump out to test it and it worked fine. When I put it back in I still have the same problem.  Something is not switching the water pump on when I turn on the AC unit.  I am getting water from the seacock that flows into the water pump.  Is thier a fuse or a circut breaker somewhere that needs to be reset?

Ok Tony…Like I say at the top of every forum page…I need some more info because my crystal ball is only so good…

How many systems on the boat ?…This could mean you have a pump relay if there is more than one system…Yes the pump relay has a fuse in it…It should also have it's own breaker in your main panel if there is a pump relay…and the pump relay board could be bad too…

You could also have a bad board in the Passport I/O control box that is not sending out power to the pump, or pump relay…

This is why I asked about power in the boat…You told me it had power but would not run…Have you actually checked for power at the pump with a meter ?

If you don't have a meter that's ok but you are going to need some way to test for voltage to find the problem…The only thing you can do is check the fuse inside the pump relay (if the boat has a pump relay) without a meter or voltage tester.

BTW…The HPF shutdown is a protection to keep the unit & pump from damage due to running without water flow…

No water flow causes High Freon Pressure.

Hi Steve, ok still working on the same problem AC unit is giving me HPF, here is what  have done, took out the water pump and hooked it up to a power and it ran fine, put it back in and does not run, I have water coming in from the lake and cleaned the filter, I unpluged the cable from the head unit to try and reset it but still does not turn on the pump lastley tryed to force water into the thru hole and no help thier.  Lost on other ideas.

Ok Tony…This is where you need the meter….Without it, we are only guessing…

If the pump runs & pumps water when out of the boat, but does not even run when installed…

Then you have lost voltage somewhere between the unit & the pump in the boat wiring….And forcing all the water in the world thru it won't make it pump water.

IT HAS TO HAVE VOLTAGE & BE RUNNING BEFORE IT CAN PUMP WATER !!!

It could be as simple and cheap as a wire connection or fuse in a pump relay box (but you have not answered that question of if this is the only unit on the boat) Or as expensive as a $410 circuit board in the unit, but to find the problem we need a way to check voltage at different places to see where it gets lost…

You could spend the $410 for the board…But that may not be the problem, and I can't read voltage for you from here….  Embarassed

Hi Steve, I'm back with the same problem, so let me start over,

When I turn on my AC unit it runs for 2 or 3 min without any water coming out the thru hull and shuts off with a code of HPF.  So I one of the other boaters took the water pump out and connected it to a straight elect connect and put it in a tub of water and the pump shot water out great.  When he put the pump back into the boat still no water pumping out of the thru hull.

I have cleaned the filters, strainer no help, I have water coming into the pump from the seacock based on when I disconnected the hose from the water pump to the ac unit with the seacock open there is water flowing.  I only have one AC unit on the boat it is a 2005 Rinker 270 Fiesta Vee.  I cannot seem to find any additional fuses other than the circuit breaker switch on the panel which controls the entire AC unit.  So bottom line something is keeping the control unit from turning on the water pump, and I hate to spend $410 on a circuit board if not necessary,  I appreciate any further assistance you can provide.

    Confused
