We just got a Silverton 1986 40ft Aft Cabin.  It has 2 air/heat units.  Marine Air -Manual thermostat, Model  2 PSS Serial 16562.  The fan works and when you switch to Run the compressor light comes on but the compressor does not kick in.  I don't know anything about marine air units.  Do they use freon?  If so, could it be out or low?  Where do you add freon at?

From your description it sounds like you may have a burnt wire connection if the compressor does not even try to start…Either behind the 3 knob control, or inside the unit's electrical box (neutral connections at the run capacitor are a common failure point)

Freon…No actually it does not use "Freon"…Although a common used term for Refrigerant/s…"Freon" is actually a registered trademark for Dupont's old R-12 refrigerant that was produced up until the mid 90's…Many other companies produced R-12 and it was used in Cars, Refrigerators, Commercial Refrigeration & some Home A/C window units….R-12 refrigerant is now only available as a reclaimed/recycled product, and has been replaced by R-134a for the same applications.

I don't think you have a "Refrigerant"  Smile  problem at this point, but if you did…Your unit, and most all marine (and home) A/C units manufactured before 1/10/2010 used R-22…Which is also being phased out…
