Marineair vcp 7k passport II fan starts not compressor

we have a 2003 silverton 39my with a marineair vcp7k Passport II in our aft state room that only runs sometimes. it has been an issue with both heating and cooling. We will either turn the temputure up or down more then 3 degrees and you would hear a buzz, which i have been told is the reversing valve and then sometimes the compressor would start and sometimes it wont the fan comes on every time. I have had a tech over and he thinks the board is starting to go. When the light comes on the panel to say its running were not getting and voltage coming through the board but then sometimes after a while the compressor will start and sometimes it wont. If you leave the tempature set so it should start the unit after a few hours or sometimes by turning it off and on the compressor will then start. The tech said freon level and compressor are in good running shape. He couldnt come to a complete diagnoses.

First thing I would do is trade keypads with the other unit to see if the problem follows the keypad…

The Passport II board is available…The Display/Keypad is not…If the display is bad your only option is to retrofit to the Passport I/O kit which is board & keypad for around $590….Your keypad or board won't talk to the Passport I/O stuff.

The Passport II board is $450.

Thanks Steve,
i had hoped it was the display/keypad was the problem, because i had picked up a replacement a few years ago. But unfortunately when i had the tech over he brought some from his truck and the issue still persisted. If you were going to fix it would you suggest the retrofit kit or would you just replace the board. Thank you

I was wrong on the retrofit kit…Its $565 not $590 (was thinking of another) So for what $125 over a Passport II replacement board, you can have the newest combo that may have replacement parts available longer…Don't hold me to that though…I never know what Marine Air does with controls…They have had a ton over the years and it sure is hard to keep them all straight…Plus none are backward compatiable to older versions…

It's not like Cruisair where the SMX II family of controls will all work together and there are only 2 boards big or small.

Steve~
