My '41 Hatteras has a self contained Cruisaire unit in the salon that keeps tripping the high pressure switch.  It shares the water pump with a 12000 btu compressor with split units down below.  It seems to be getting enough water flow but I wonder if it needs to be flushed or is there another reason for it to trip?

First we need to know when it trips…Cooling or Heating ???

 

If it trips in the cool mode we look at the water side:

Flow rate…250 GPH per ton (12,000 Btu) is needed, then yes the condition of the inside of the water coil comes into play too.

 

If it trips in the heat mode, we look at air flow & it's flow rate:

Larger the unit, the more air flow is required to remove the heat from the refrigerant.

The blower will be sized correctly from the A/C factory, but they can only state what size duct is required…Did the installer follow those recommendations ?…They often do not…

Then we also look at filter & air coil condition.
