I have a self contained 2000 8000 btu marine air unit in our state room with Passport control head. When we turn on the heat mode it will run fine for maybe 20 to 30 minutes and then we will notice that ambient air is coming out of the duct.  I will turn it off for 15 to 20 minutes, then start it up and it will repeat itself. I have not notice this to happen in the cooling mode, just the heat. Water flow is good. Any thoughts or what other info might you need.

Hi Mike~

As mentioned at the top of the main forum page…Temp of the water the boat sits in, and climate is important for me to know.

Also in your case…What is the actual ambient cabin air temp when it shuts off & what is the setpoint (temp you are trying to attain) on the Passport control ?

Water temp in 40's probably, Chesapeake Bay, outside temp 40's also. Aft stateroom 54, set point 65. Temp showed 61 when it cut out.

By the way the salon unit, 16000 BTU, which has never had the problem was set at 70 and holding temp. Also this problem has been an ongoing one with the heat and have put up with it. Time has come to try and identify the problem.

Mike~

Water temps in the 40's…If it's close to 40 it could be a low pressure problem…Hard to prove that without gauges, and the fact that the other unit still runs in heat…

I'm assuming due to age (2000) that you have the Passport II control with No penguin in the lower right corner of the faceplate ?…

That being said I would first try a factory reset of the control…..With the breaker On but the control Off…Press & Hold the Power Button on the Keypad for 10 seconds….

Without gauges to know exactly what is happening I can't really tell you any individual parameters to check in the programming but this will reset to factory defaults…Let me know if that clears the problem…

Also….Instead of manually shutting off when blowing ambient air…Wait for say 20-30 min to see if you get a fault code on the display…Some faults need/cause several (3-4) restarts before shutdown & display of a fault.

Shutting off manually may be interrupting this process…If it will display a fault, I can better tell what is happening without gauges connected.
