Hi Steve

We are on a four stateroom Hatteras 61 MY 1985 with split A/C's.  I have one manual two knob control and two three knob controls in the smaller staterooms which are cruise air.  I do not seem to have fan speed control on all three of these units

The fan speed rotors have KB Electronics 115 volt set to 8o volts on them with two wires and a ground wire.  You can here a electronic hum change pitch when rotating the fan speed but no accompanying fan speed increase.  Some one suggested just cross the two wires coming to the fan control to get the fan at high speed all the time.  In the small rooms the fan is only needed to keep the evaporator from icing up as the rooms stay nice and cold.  Do you have a replacement speed control or suggestions on what to use?  Is there a possibility the fans are the problem and what to test to verify?  One of the evaporators is a cruise air EB07

7000 BTU  Serial #848209

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan~

The set to 80 volt sticker means…Set no lower than 80 volts for low speed…High speed is Unrestricted & Non-Adjustable..

Meaning that with the knob in the fully clockwise position, the speed control is passing thru full line voltage…

If you want to set low speed there is a hole under the Red sticker that you can either peel back the sticker or just punch a hole in it to gain access to a pot (small flat blade screwdriver) to set the low voltage with the knob fully counterclockwise…

They put the set to 80 volts sticker there to keep you from going lower & possibly icing the coil without enough air flow across it.

The staterooms on those boats don't seem to blow very hard but that's because Hatteras did a nice job of sizing the ductwork to make the system quiet…You want Volume of Air Movement not Velocity…Air Velocity is noise without much benefit, and as you comment…Those cabins are plenty cold…

The only time I would jumper out the fan speed control would be if it failed not allowing the fan to run (and I didn't have a replacement available)

I'll give Hatteras a B- on the A/C blower systems as the two areas we use the most

which is the salon and the master stateroom the blower system is extremely

loud.  The belt driven blower in the salon is bad but the master stateroom system is even worse.

I guess the only help is to jumper the fan to the compressor so at least they do not run continuously or get

digital controls.  Thanks for the fast response!

Digital Controls are the answer for many reasons…

But your 2 speed blower/evap will either need to be changed out to a newer model with a variable speed motor, or you will have to use Cruisair controls…

None of the others I know of can operate a 2 speed motor.

The newer Evap/Blower would be quieter overall though…Especially with the auto fan speed of digital controls that lowers speed with room temp…

Steve~
