CruiseAir – no heat

Steve,

I have an older CruiseAir split system with the SMX control panel.  Total of 5 units on a Hatteras 58' LRC.

One of the units is not heating in "heat" mode.  Only blows cold air.  No codes showing on the panel.

The other 4 units are performing fine, so I don't think air/water temps are the problem.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Two questions…

Does the "Heating" (not just the heat) Light (top right of the keypad/display ) light up on the SMX ?

If so…Do you have 115/230 volts (depending on system voltage) at the Blue & L/2 Neutral terminals inside the electrical box of the WFAH condensing unit ?

Yes, it "says" heating.  Also, switches from heat to cool just fine.

I'll need to put a meter on it to see what voltage reads.  Details to follow.

Thanks.

Just to be clear Jeff…There are 2 heat lights…One just above the heat button that indicates you have entered the heat mode.

The second light is at the top right of the keypad just to the right of the display that is labeled "Heating"

Do BOTH of those lights light up ?

This description is providing you have either SMX or SMX II…Not SMXir but it's important to know the answer because it can mean differing things…SMXir will have the same 2 lights but in they are located differently…

I know you said it says heating…And sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here  Embarassed

But that one small thing of both lights can mean the direction of where I tell you to look next.

Since you verified the heating light is lighting in your mail…

That does mean the microprocessor is sending out the signal for heating…

Now it is a matter of if you have voltage to the reversing valve coil…If you do…Then is the coil good ?

You can test that by removing the coil & sticking a screwdriver into it's hole to see if it will magnetically hold the screwdriver…

If it will not…And there is voltage to the coil….Then the coil is bad…

If the coil holds a screwdriver then either the reversing valve is stuck, or there is not enough freon in the system for it to heat…

Thanks Steve. To confirm, this is a SMX II.
I'll check these things this weekend and report back.
