Condensation from supply registers

I am getting a lot (as in soak the floor) condensation from the registers. The boat is a 1972 Hatteras 43DC. It has 2 split units, the air temps have been in the upper 90 s with high humidity. The supply air temps are 50 & 49 the return temps are 68 & 71. Any idea as to the reason for this?
Thanks,
Roger

Hi Roger~

Hatteras used metal discharge grilles & it's pretty normal for them to sweat quite a bit in High Humidity, but if it's actually blowing the condensate off the coil out into the cabin I gotta ask some questions…

Those are some old coils and I believe they are they EFB/EFL type on the 43, With propeller type fan blades blowing thru the back No ??

  • Are the drains clear ?…They could be picking up water from the pan…
  • Have you changed any fan motors ?…Ones that move more air than the original's can cause the condensate to blow right off the fins…

Yes they are the prop type fans. The drains are all clear. None of the fans appear to have been changed. The problem seems to be worse with the recent warm damp weather. Do you think changing to plastic grilles would help?

Either plastic or wood would help (wood being better) with it running down the bulkhead, but if it's coming off the coil the only thing I might suggest is to slow the fan down & keep the doors closed…Once most of the humidity has been removed it should subside somewhat…

Thanks Steve,
I will try the wood grilles. The condensation is coming from the grilles and not blowing
Thanks again,
Roger
