Steve, I want to be sure I understand…

The optimum setup is to totally remove or gut the PWX box and wire the new box (regardless of whether it's a new FX1 or the SMX) in its place in the engine room and then run the remote display to the cabin.  Do I understand that correctly?

To answer directly…..With FX-1 Yes…With SMXII…No not needed (but you could do that)…

The SMXII has the op-to coupler on the board to gate the Triac in the PWX properly…

Yes the SMXII box would have to be slightly modified (move one wire) and part of the PWX would be modified too (Disconnect the trigger & small circuit board)

If you ordered SMXII/s from me I could tell you what to do inside it's box if you wanted to do it yourself, or I could make the mod before it ships (either on one so you could copy & also see the original wiring, or on both if you ordered both & just wanted me to do it)

Then I would walk you thru what to do inside your PWX/s….Really simple stuff…

Again to use the FX-1 in place of the PWX you will need to pull larger supply & compressor wire to & from the cabin (from PWX location)…Plus you will need a longer control cable & temp sensor cable (if you have a alt temp sensor)

Hi Steve,

As I mentioned on the Hatt site, I decided to see if I could troubleshoot the FX1 boxes and possibly replace components.  I found that it was the compressor relay on both boxes that went bad.  But I cannot source those relays at all.  Coastal has replacement boxes for $158 so I decided to just do that as opposed to the price of changing to the SWXs.  I will install the FX1 boxes in the engine room and "gut" the Cruisair PWX box on the 230VAC unit.  There is no PWX box for the 120VAC unit.

I really appreciate all the info/advice – wish you carried the FX1 – I d be happy to order the parts from you as opposed to Coastal.

Mike~

I do handle the board & keypad for the FX-1…But can't compete with that price  Frown

However I do believe my advise has been worth something…

Lot'a time went into it, and sales are what keep this place going for all…

Just to be clear…You don't need to move the Guest Stateroom box to the ER…Only with systems that have PWX…Unless you use Cruisair controls…

BTW…For everyone….If you care to look over this site/forum…It seems (to me at least) I deal with failures of Marine Air controls (same mfg & as FX-1's) at a rate of around 10 to 1 versus Cruisair controls…And I don't believe there are that many more of the others than Cruisair's out there…But I could be wrong too…

Steve~
