Cabin Comfort Self Contained Unit

I have one of those older Cabin Comfort self contained cabinet types AC for a small cabin Trojan and I am trying to decide to punt or try to resuscitate.

I have not messed with it since last summer when my son took the boat out and it came back in blowing warm air. Up until then, I had no problem. I almost think he left it on START rather than turning it to RUN on the manual selector.

So when he came back in… the compressor would kick in just for a few seconds but not stay on. Now the compressor will not come on at all now although it seems like for a split second it wants to try.

I have full supply of water running to and from unit. I tried it again after giving the unit the winter off and I had the same results as where I ended at the end of the summer.

Do I kick it to the curb? It worked pretty well until that night where I trusted it to  my son.

Thanks,

Dollar Bill…Thanks for posting~

I don't think I would be to hard on my son (leaving it on "Start" only runs the fan & pump)… and If it's the unit I'm thinking it is…It has to be at least 30+ (more like 40+) years old…Maybe older than him ?

As far as why the compressor won't start…Could be as simple as a burnt wire, or a bad capacitor…It could also be because it's old & done it's work…Let's face it…It dosen't owe anyone anything at it's age…

I might invest in a service call from a pro, but if it's anything more than a wire or capacitor (both in the low DollarBill range)

I'd say it's time for services…Maybe even at sea burial….Just joking EPA folks…Or you could always put it up on the mantle…The cabinet was kinda attractive… Surprised Embarassed Smile

Steve~
