AquaCal…won't shut off!

I have an AquaCal AC unit (16kw) that will start fine, run fine, except the in cabin controls do not show the actual tempature and thus the unit runs and runs. For example, if the space is 85 degrees, we turn it on and set the thermastat at 72. The unit will run, and the temp will get below 72, but the AC unit will not turn off, and the controls will show the room temp at 80, when in fact the temp is 70 degrees in the space.

The controls are labled AquaCal – long ago out of business. The connections run over a flat grey cable (looks like large telephone cable) with an RJ48 connector.

I am not sure if the thermastat for the unit is in the controls or is a separte sensor (have not found it).

Suggestions?

Hi Henry~

Although AquaCal is a local company here in St Pete that is still in business (swimming pool heat pumps) and I know the guy that designed the marine a/c line for them (Mike Patrick)…It's strange…I have never seen one of their units, or what controls they used…

My first guess would be that you have not found the temp sensor wire, and that it may be dangling down in the bilge somewhere…Thus not in the conditioned space thus it sees/shows little to no temp change…But that would be a guess because like you I don't know if it has a remote sensor or if it's senses from the keypad…

If I were looking for a remote sensor…I would start at the unit's electrical box, or find where the other end of the display cable plugs into…That's where remote temp sensors usually connect to the main control circuit board…The cable may be similar to the display cable (flat telephone type) but the thermistor will be on the end of that cable (usually a silver metal piece about the diameter of a pencil)

I don't know how to get in touch with Mike…Haven't seen or heard of him in years…But there is a guy that runs his own marine a/c business locally that I believe also worked for AquaCal at that time…Pat Peterson (Peterson Marine) that may be able to help more…His Shop number is (813) 854-2252…

Real nice guy…Tell him Hi for me, and that I just gave him some free advertising…  Wink

Steve,
Thank you.
At the electrical control box, there is only one flat cable from this system. I have 3 systems onboard. One has a remote sensor – flat cable with a pencil sensor at the end. The system that is not working as it should only has the flat cable to the display unit. I manually reset the system last night. Will be doing more testing this weekend.
