I have a 1973 43′ Hatteras. I replaced both 16,000 compressors when we bought the boat in 2000.
About 18 months ago the saloon unit started to put out less and less air. The people at Waters A/C here in Jacksonville sold me a spray can to soak the fins with to see if that would clean them up and allow more air….Didn't work.
Now the split unit for my staterooms is also putting out a lot less air, maybe 25& of what it use to.
In both instances, the fan motors still sound like they are working fine.
So am guessing the air handlers have finally gone bad? (they are 37 yrs old!)
What kind of $$ should I be looking at for new units, if that's what the problem is?

Jax~

I took the liberty of moving your post to it's own thread since your question had little to do with the thread you posted it in….In the future please use the "New Topic" button to ask a new question & start a thread.

Waters Air was likely right…You have 37 years if crud built up on the coil preventing air flow…

You didn't say which model 43 Hatt but during those years they used "Blow Thru" (non ductable) as opposed to "Draw Thru" type air handlers with squirrel cage blowers.

The Blow Thru models had propeller type fan blades mounted on the back, and no good way to attach a filter…Plus the prop type blades didn't move much air to start with (even with everything clean)

You can try again to clean the coils…But this time remove the fans from the back & spray the coils from that side with the cleaner, and then a garden hose with cone nozzle…

But yes, you would be much happier with newer air handlers…I would need sizes of the stateroom air handlers & maybe some pictures to see what styles to recommend & quote pricing but they range from $830 to $980 each.

Steve~
