fan comes on for seven seconds then shuts off. then cycles again for seven seconds. no power to the water pump. 9,000 btu system self contained. do not know history just purchased boat. Looking for suggestions possible relay, low freon??????

Again I have to Assume…So I Assume you have digital controls ???

You say no voltage to the pump…Did you measure it, and does the compressor start or run ?

The system will not operate correctly without the pump…Pumping full flow…

Again Assuming…But it could be that the Digital (?) control (what brand & model) is set to cycle the fan with the compressor, and that since you have no water flow, the compressor runs (???) for 7 seconds before the High pressure switch sees high pressure due to lack of water flow, and it opens telling the control to shut off the compressor (which then also shuts off the fan)

But I'm just guessing here  Confused  and it could be totally something else…Like maybe the fan motor overheating & tripping it's internal overload…Could be a bad control board…maybe not sending voltage out to the pump or fan…How many systems on the boat ?…If more than one…There could be a pump relay that is not telling the pump to start…etc….

Come on folks…I've done what I can with messages at the top of the forum & in the "Read Before Posting" threads…

What have I got to do to get the full info….I can only guess  Cry

Sorry for the lack of info, I have run a automotive repair facility for twenty years and can appreciate the lack of information. The boat has one system,1995 29 foot Searay. The digital controll appears to be a Passport I/O the control does not appear to go into the program mode I have found online. I have measued voltage into the control box 115 volts,no voltage to water pump,I am not sure if the compressor is getting any voltage, I assumed the water pump had to start first. I am not sure of the chain of events, and the sequence to make the system work. If there is a low pressure switch, maybe it is just low on freon? I have pulled the controll box notice a start up compacitor, and a start up relay, not sure on test procedure I am thinking about pulling the system and bringing it home for a more thourough bench test? when the system is turned on the digital control counts up to exactly 7 seconds then shut of and starts series again the fan comes on for these 7 seconds. Not sure on the average life of one of these systems, maybe I am waisting my time and should buy a new system, just tying to save some money if possible. Thanks for any advice you may have, Its Damn hot in Teaxas

I'm on my phone so excuse the short reply but…

In 1995 there was no Passport I/O…It did not come out till 2003.
It could be a Passport II and that could explain why you cannot get into program mode…The I/O & the II do that differently…This is assuming that you have Marine Air brand equipment.

However…In 1995 I believe SeaRay was using Cruisair brand A/C…In which case it would have Cruisair's "SMX II" family of control…

This might explain the displayed countdown…Marine Air's controls have the feature but won't display it…

Cruisar units back then had low pressure switches…Marine Air did not…

As you have confirmed…All the above is important for me to know before I can be of much help…They are differing anminals…with differing fixes…

Can you at minimum get me a model # ???….A pic of the keypad would help…I mean Gosh Dude….Help Me Help You !!!!

SOMETHING….  Surprised

Sure Here are some stats Marine Air Systems Model # VHE9K-H   5MR  The control pad looks just like a Passport I/O(legacy model)  Thanks

Ok Thanks~

The Marine Air "VHE" units show as being built in 94-95 and coming with the original Passport control which was before Passport I/O or Passport II…They all operate/program slightly differently, have different boards, and one won't talk to another's board…

To verifiy your control has not been changed/retrofitted take a look at this link: http://marine-ac.com/marine-ac…..ion-units/ The Passport & it's board are on pages 7 & 8…

Passport had a small penguin facing right (next to the Airrr) It also had no little bump under the Airrr that is a air temp sensor…Also Notice in that link, Passport I/O has a larger penguin facing left, and the temp sensing bump.

Marine Air no longer supports the Passport, and thus no Manuals or parts are available…My feeling is your problem is very likely the board, but since it's not available your only choice is to retrofit to the new Passport I/O (if it has not been done already)

The retrofit kit is $565.00 retail and comes with new Board, Display/Keypad, 15' cable, 7' air sensor, and quick reference card, but before you spend that money (no returns are accepted on electronic parts) you may want to bypass the board by connecting the compressor, pump, & fan wires together with L1 to see how the unit runs first…

I do discount that retail price but can't quote here…

I think you are correct in assuming this is a passport control. Iam not sure on the penquin question ,can aswer that Thursday when I go to work on the boat. The control board I have at home, It look 95% identical, except the point looking contacts are open on mine. The numbers on the one in page 8 are PCB-310-XO6  mine are PCB-310-XOE I like the idea of bypassing the board to test the unit, but 110 makes me a little nervous. When say to connect the wires to L1 could you be more specific. Will this bypass the run compacitor, and does that matter. I see a lot of stuff labled L1

Thanks Dave

Let me clarify my ignorance, do I have to include the start up relay, and capacitors. Or is it just power, power, nuetral, and fire everything up direct with one switch. Sweaty my rear end of in Texas!!   Thanks.

Don't worry about capacitors etc…Take Comp, Fan & Pump wires on the board & connect to Line 1…

If there are neutral wires there for each, they will need to connect to neutral…But they may be tied together on the board…I don't remember on that board & would need to either try to dig up an old board, or have one in my hand to follow the circuit print.

I would connect the Line 1's first & turn the breaker on…If it does not run, then shut the breaker back off & connect the neutrals all together with incoming neutral, and turn on the breaker again.

You can then use the unit by turning it on & off with the breaker…But obviously you will not have a thermostat, so it could get very cold in the cabin & the unit might ice up…Also don't leave it running unattended…The high pressure switch will still be active but it will continue to cycle the unit on & off till either the breaker trips, or it burns something up…

Be sure not to connect the REV wire…It's for the reversing valve & if powered the unit will only heat.

Thanks Steve, If I don't electricute myself Thursday,I will let you know how it turns out. But whatever it needs I will Buy through you. Now to the next problem, I have a list of many . This boat sat up for seven years in the water, something happened in the head. Looks like it exploded from under the toilet. I don't know how this system works. Do you know anyone that could advise me on this system. What is you opioun on power invertors, my boat does not have a generator, I just need a couple of hours of a/c. when in the lake. How many watts does this system pull.

Thanks Dave
