Hello All…A New Year again…Hopefully yours was good….

I started this site last year to “put my feelers out” about what owners and captains may want to learn and share about marine a/c.

The support has been more than I ever expected…

So… My New Year resolution to you is expand the site we created…Because of your feedback I am going to begin adding to my store to allow you to order most of the common Marine A/C system items that I found you’ve needed, but until the store is fully operational…As always I’m here for you to contact…

Some important information…Sadly…Due to EPA regulations there will be no more R-22 systems/units produced in 2010…

If you need to replace a R-22 condensing unit in an existing system…You will need to purchase a R-417A unit, evacuate your R-22 (which you would do anyway) and re-charge the system with R-417A (drop in replacement for R-22)…No need to change the air handler.

For new installations (split system or self contained) the systems have been re-designed to operate with environmentally friendly R-410A which operates at much higher pressures that the existing R-22 or R-417A systems…These R-410A units can Not be paired with the older air handlers.

Your local A/C guy will know what to do & have the equipment to make the change.

Your comments & feedback are always welcome & appreciated…I need things to help me write…So ask away…It does stir the thoughts…

Clean Sea Strainers to All, and to All a Good Year…Think of the A/C/Heat/ Refer Guy…He Does You…

Everyone can access it, but registration is required to post…I don’t share that info…You can find the link at the top of any of Marine -AC.com’s pages…Just click on “Forum”…Or you can click on this http://marine-ac.com/forum/

We are slowly growing, and I seem to notice from the searches what folks do to find Marine-A/C.com. I also see that many are either not finding the forum and/or asking their questions…

So again I would like to offer the suggestion that you “Check It Out”

Please don’t be afraid to ask anything you would search for answers for in any search engine…In my experience there are Not a lot of sites (if any) offering personal answers out there for the Marine A/C & Refrigeration field, and it’s one of the main reasons I have offered this forum section.

Join in with questions and comments…Hopefully together we can make this a one stop source for your marine a/c info, experiences & troubleshooting.

I personally look forward to interacting with everyone…

Note: If you do decide to register & participate…Please input your location in the space provided as it helps to know your climate without having to ask.

Here’s to hoping your New Year is Prosperous…and Regardless of the present status of the economy…I’m sure that most all of us are feeling the same pinch !
I’d like to offer that in the past economic downturns…I have noticed that Service of older systems/boats seems Much more prevalent than the purchase of new…And that Most folks seem to either want to get out of boating…Or stay with what they have a bit longer to see what is likely to shake out….Heck…It’s times like these that are not good for a seller if he wants to get the most for his Beloved Ole Gal…
Sadly this is true of most all property, but it seems to hit the Marine Industry especially hard since boats are considered a luxury item that we can put aside for the time being for other “More Important” concerns…But Hey…What can be more important than Relaxation?

I know…Eating, Paying Bills…and stuff like that right?
Thing is…Your trusty A/C guy has Gotta eat too…LOL

Really though….Now is the time of year that is traditionally slow for the Marine Industry anyway…Just after everyone has spent a bundle on the Holidays is what I have always attributed it to…However….

There are a few reasons that you may want to consider either going over your systems yourself…Or getting that Trusty A/C guy out now to have a once over…

First off…It’s much cooler now to do the work when you do not need A/C…To Do the A/C Work…

If you decide you want Ole Trusty to do it…He will Love you for it when he is at his slowest, and thus may give you a break on work that may be needed once he checks things out…Because he needs it now too…

It’s customers like these that he respects most, and also likely feels that one hand scratches another’s back so to speak…

Then when things get Hot & Busy…He remembers…and Trust Me…He Does!

Going over the systems now can also save you the aggravation of having it not work when you need it…

I know this may sound like I’m selling…and in a way I am standing up for the A/C guy…But all too often (Like every year around March for me) Someone calls when every one else does…And I can’t get to them as soon as I, or they would like…Gee…”It was working the last time I was down here and I have a Big Trip All Planned”….

Now I would like to get to them…But as much as they count on me…I can’t just tell the guy I’m working on at present that I have to drop what I’m doing on his boat…Because they have a trip planned…He wants his stuff to work too…

Of Course…Sometimes it can be worked out, but it can be a big inconvenience for everyone involved…Sometimes feelings get hurt in the process…Neither we (A/C guys) nor the customer wants or needs that…

One more thing on this subject and I’ll leave it up to you to comment or decide…But this is also where Ole Trusty may remember…He knows who took care of him when times were slow, and will likely work harder to get to the guy that he knows that he checked his systems to try to prevent an “Emergency” from happening in the first place…

Even with the best of Service…Emergency’s do still happen…But if all the basic service has been done recently…At least he doesn’t have to spend that extra time when neither you, or he has much of it…Hopefully it’s just a small part or some simple adjustment…

I’d like to say hello and offer my plans for this site…

First & Foremost…True to my history in the marine maintenance and air conditioning business…I’d like to help the boat owner with their A/C & Refrigeration systems.

I am always happy to share my experience, from the most minor advice…To major cooling or refrigeration upgrade plans…Questions will always be welcome on this site, share your thoughts and experiences, join the conversation about marine A/C maintenance and repair. Together we can work towards making your boat cooling projects easier to understand and hopefully remove some of the mystery of how things work.

We now also have a forum section to discuss any and all topics related to marine A/C & Refrigeration…Check it out http://marine-ac.com/forum/ It’s free to register (and I don’t share any info from that ) but you will need to do so (like any other forum) in order to post/share questions or experiences…

If you do decide to register I would ask that you at least add your general location to your profile as it can help knowing what climate you live in without having to ask…

I will gladly answer questions on many subjects, including confirming what you are being told by your technician or helping you to understand what you can do yourself (If you are handy)

Steve~

Steve is a welcome sight at most marinas and boat yards on the West Coast of Florida. Honesty and intregrity are just part of Steve’s reputation, hard work and a incredible depth of knowlege are also mentioned. Just ask local yacht owners and boatyards from Sarasota to Tarpon Springs if they know of Steve Pooler and Cooler Marine. They will remember him with a smile.
