Used Marine Air 16K Self Contained Cool/Heat A/C Unit w/Digital Control…SOLD….

SOLD…..

Marine Air 010Unit model VRE16K-H (Rotary Compressor) 16,000 BTU 115 volt.
Serial 11844
Digital Control is a Marine Air Passport AH (White)

The unit came from a Grand Banks Trawler that was for sale at a dealer I do service for.
It had a bad control board and a bad High Pressure switch…The new boat owner wanted to start out new.

I had a control box & control from another unit that had a bad compressor (therefore another model number sticker is on control box) I installed a new pressure switch, Cleaned the evap coil, and acid flushed the condenser.
The unit is pretty clean looking with little signs of rust in the pan…
The paint is all original.
Marine Air 003

This unit new with control & cable would retail for over $3000.

$700.00 + Shipping…Price reduced for quick sale…$600 + Shipping

This system is priced lower than a digital control retrofit kit from Marine Air…It’s like you’re getting a 16K  A/C unit in good shape for nothing…

If local can demo on bench.

  1. Can you let me know what the unit’s dimensions are (width, length, height)? Approximately how old? I have an old unit that runs ok, then the compressor cuts off for a few seconds, tries to cut back on, pegs the 50 amp ammeter and trips breaker. Reset the breaker, it runs for a while then repeats. I am thinking of replacing it rather than repairing it.

  2. Another question. Current unit is 10000 BTU, a little too small. A while back I did a rough cubic foot measurement and concluded 12000 should be about right. Do you think 16000 BTU’s would be too big? Boat does have big windows.

  3. Hi Rick…What size, brand & model boat ?

I may have been on one…Windows are like a Green House…

I can get you measurements tomorrow…Or you can call me if you prefer 727-365-6123

  4. Steve, will the compressor section work with a 16K cruisair split condenser.? I do not need the blower section.

    dennis

  5. No it will not…It is a rotary compressor…and was not built to be split.
    Anyway…It goes as one unit.

  6. Is the unit still available. I have the same unit installed on my boat (s/n 11082) and runs fine except for the compressor overload switch which fried a lead (the one soldered to the switch). I have installed a jumper and it is working but do to age and inability to find parts (can’t find a new switch) I am thinking of picking this up as a back-up unit.

  7. Hi Scott~

Yes it’s still available…The one thing this unit is missing that I have not mentioned is the cover over the overload on the compressor…I thought I could find one laying around, but as of yet have not been able to come up with one (newer models have a hole for a stud that holds it on instead of the clip on type on this one)
Your unit would be a perfect match to supply that missing cover…Though we can probably come up with a overload for your unit…Your idea of a spare unit is a good one since as of this year’s EPA regulations there will be no more R-22 refrigerant units produced…

  8. Steve,
Is the unit still avaiable?, and what would shipping be to Mentor, Oh 44060?
I’m looking to install this on a 1988 Sea Ray 30′ weekender. The boat never had ac and the factory option was a 10k unit. I know I have plenty of room under the forward berth for your unit but what, if any problems would arise from installing the higher btu.?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  9. Hi Jeff~

Sorry…But I just took a credit card # yesterday on that unit…I’m shipping it to S. Fla this week…

The higher BTU might cause the unit to shut off on temp before it had a chance to remove the humidity…Meaning it would cool the cabin very quickly and the thermostat would see the temp and thus shut the compressor off…Thus a cold wet situation that is not comfortable…

Used units that are worth re-selling are not that easy to come by…Usually the ones I remove are pretty used up…or rusted badly…This one was one of the rare circumstances where I felt comfortable with cleaning it up & re-selling.

I do however offer new units at discounted prices…If you’d like to shoot me an e-mail we can discuss your options…

  10. Steve,
I also have a March-AC-5CP-MD 1080GPH pump, is this sufficient for your unit?
    Jeff

  11. Ah story of my life, always a day late. my email is jacc306@yahoo.com
    Thanks, Jeff

  12. The pump you have is good for up to 48,000 BTU or 4 tons of A/C

  13. Steve,
Thanks for the advise, very helpfull. I found another unit last week but it’s a 230v unit. Why are they so much less $, and can they be converted to 110 reasonably?
    Thanks again,
    Jeff

  14. Less demand for 230 volt units…Not many boats that will use self contained units will have 230 volt available…

No they cannot be converted easily…Costs more than the unit is worth.

    Steve~
